Yeehawww. Just had two exams in an eight hour span. I’m dead tired but feeling pretty spiffy. One exam on Friday left. The last exam ever! Hooboy. On my kitchen table I found an old schedule outlining all the assignments, projects, presentations and exams I had to get done through the last few weeks and I involuntarily cringed at the unfathomable horribleness of it. I still don’t know how I pulled it all off.

You know, it’s looking like I’m going to be the first ever Bioinformatics grad from my university. There are a couple others in the same stream but they don’t have all the credits they need yet. It’s going to be funny if they give me a gold medal for the highest mark of my program. I totally don’t deserve one with what will likely be a low seventies average. The injustice is sweet, my friends. Haha!

Oh so sleep deprived. I’m excited though. I’m starting to feel real excited about my coming metamorphosis from a dull and lowly undergrad into a beautiful and elegant butte– graduate. I am looking forward to starting fresh somewhere, a new job, new city, new place. New new new. Maybe I’ll even earn some money that isn’t spent on rent or food. Even in the worse case scenario of not finding a job this summer, the idea of going back home to T. Bay in September is exciting. I’ll reconnect with old friends who’ve probably written me off, enjoy the doting attention of a mom who hasn’t had her son in the house since he was eighteen, buy some new skates and a stick with which I will unleash an incomprehensible torrent of furious hockey skill and prowess upon the unsuspecting patrons of the outdoor rinks of my childhood neighbourhood! Ohhh yes!

I think I’m going to renew my campus recreation membership and locker for the summer. Preparation starts now!

  1. Have you ever heard of the Arrogant Worms? They have some cool hockey songs. Congrats on getting through the two exams and being the first Bioinformatics grad from Western! ^_^ You’re making me feel excited just reading the post!

  3. Oooo bioinformatics.  We have a good program for that here at UCSC.  The dude who first mapped the human genome (Jim Kent) was a student here and is now a professor I think.  Totally awesome.

  4. Right on!  Have some fun, you’ve earned it.  As much as I get bored with my 9-5 gig, I don’t miss the poverty and constant stress of being a student (well, now I’m a student AND work full-time, which is pretty harsh, but at least I’m only semi as oppsoed to fully-blown impoverished now).  Hope post-grad plans go well for you.

  6. Dammit.  I didn’t know that about salmon.  I eat it at least once a week (I buy these new Lean Cuisines with salmon–good and fast).  I’ve heard it about tuna, due to the mercury content, but didn’t know salmon should be limited, too.  Don’t worry, I’m not sore at you for raining on my parade.  😉  I needed to know.  Yet another one of life’s pleasures which is not good for me in excess.  Boo.

  7. ryc: TWO tickets?  sheesh!?  so how are you deciding who to invite?  i’d hold some kind of beauty contest-esque competition omplete with talent and swimsuit competition.
can you believe that there’s a college at sdsu that gives away 12 tickets per graduate??

  8. when i went to Vegas, i was all like, i’m not going to gamble. i dont have that much money and it’s a stupid way to waste what you have. but something does it to you… i mean, you can put a doller into video poker and play for half an hour. and it’s only one doller. plus while you’re sitting there potentially getting money (a la my $10 experience), pretty ladies come around and bring you free alcohol. so i figure its worth it.south of massachussetts can be very nice. i am quite the conoisseur of the southwest (seeing as i live in LA) and i highly reccomend it. def see LV sometime, even if you dont like it, its just one of those things you have to do. like eating hamsters.
